Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at Growthpoint is about demonstrating a long-term positive change in society and the environment around us. CSR embodies all functions relating to Corporate Social Investment, Enterprise Development, Transformation, Sustainability Disclosure and Social and Ethics Reporting.  The administration of these areas is by the CSR policy, with the budget managed by the CSR team and reported to the Social, Ethics and Transformation Committee, on a quarterly basis.

Our projects and programmes-Corporate Social Investment

We intentionally work with historically disadvantaged and marginalised people, in order to create opportunities that enable these communities to thrive. Our social investment activities focus on supporting sustainable communities through the three pillars of investment; education, social infrastructure and enterprise development. We reached just short of 60 000 beneficiaries in the past year, with the investment for the year totalling  R21,8 million.

Our education investments

We support education initiatives throughout the educational value chain.

Growsmart is a Growthpoint education initiative, in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Education. It demonstrates the effects and importance of an ongoing effective public-private partnership. Growsmart features a quiz competition targeting learners in grades four, five and six, in schools with poor literacy. By adopting a collaborative approach, we utilise the resources of our shopping centres in the Western Cape and continue to enhance our efforts towards providing learners with access to quality education. Enterprise Development

As Growthpoint’s enterprise and supplier development initiative, Property Point builds on our commitment to job creation. We are passionate about small business. In fact, we’re driven by the belief that small business can make a big impact – and we’re committed to providing the tools, skills and support to make it happen.  Acting as a bridge between SMEs and procurement, the programme unlocks real supply chain opportunities, ensuring sustainable transformation and job creation.
Property Point takes a two-pronged approach to development. It runs:
  1. A two-year incubation programme for select SMEs
  2. A general information programme that is open to all interested entrepreneurs called To The Point sessions

Staff Engagement

Our staff are empowered to enrich the lives of communities around them.  To demonstrate this commitment to volunteerism, each staff member is allocated eight hours in a year towards community engagement. The staff volunteerism programme called G² (also known as Growthpoint Gives), is an action-oriented initiative that allows staff to participate in various organised projects. As part of our greater good towards the community benefit, we have committed 6 700 hours of volunteerism.
